With puppy dog eyes that could peer into your soul, an Italian Bracco is a wonderful, gentle family pet. They originated in Italy where they were used for hunting, tracking and pointing game and these traits can still be seen in the breed today. They are suited to large houses with big yards; more rural than urban living. They love the country and will happily act as both a family pet and a working dog. They can adapt to an apartment though if given appropriate exercise.

They love swimming, running and retrieving so exercise your pet twice a day. If not exercised enough they will become boisterous. Highly intelligent, devoted and loving, your Bracco Italiano will be a well-mannered, cuddly member of the family. They are gentle and have a high compatibility with children. They’ll even befriend other dogs and cats if raised with them.

Fun fact: They are one of the oldest hunting-dog breeds,

dating back to the 4th and 5th centuries BC.

Train your Bracco Italiano with gentleness and consistency and you’ll have a pet the whole street is envious of. They have a low tendency to bark but will alert you to any approaching guests. These loyal companions don’t shed much, so you need not worry about picking dog hairs off your clothes. Groom your Bracco Italiano by brushing their coat weekly to remove loose hairs. They are not hypoallergenic.

Scheduled six-monthly health checks and visits to the vet are important to ensure your dog is healthy and happy throughout all life stages. It’s important that together with your vet, a preventative healthcare program is determined and maintained based on the individual needs of your canine companion.
