Is clumping or non-clumping litter the type for you? Complete our questionnaire to find out.
When it comes to litter, there’s a huge range on offer. Overall, it can be summarised into two unique categories – clumping and non-clumping litter.
Clumping litter
Clumping litter is newer to the cat litter scene and is considered a more convenient option as you don’t have to do a complete litter box change as often as you do with a non-clumping type. The urine is soaked up and forms a clump that can be easily scooped out and discarded, along with any faecal waste. The entire tray is usually required to be changed about once a month or so (depending on how often your cat uses it and if you have more than one cat). It is excellent for odour control.
Non-clumping cat litter
Non-clumping litter has been around for a long time. Its materials (which include natural substrates like pine and recycled paper) absorb moisture entirely, so once it reaches complete saturation point it is time to be replaced – roughly once a week or so (depending on how many cats you have and how often your cat/they use the tray). It still has great odour control and is fantastic for limiting tracking (when dust or litter particles attach to your cat and can be dropped around the tray and house).
