Thank you to everyone who has helped us raise funds for Seeing Eye Dogs Australia (SEDA). Here’s an update on just a few of the dogs who you have helped fund on their journey to become Seeing Eye Dogs!

Missy

Missy has been progressing very well over the past few months, and both her puppy carer and puppy development trainer are very happy with the level she is at.  Now that she is 12 months old, Missy will soon be visiting SEDA’s Puppy Development Centre to undergo her twelve-month assessment. The vets at SEDA will assess Missy’s health including her sight and hearing, and her joints and muscles.  As her puppy carer is a schoolteacher, Missy continues to go to school every day, much to the students delight! Whilst she is at school, she is a good girl and knows when it is time to be quiet and have a nap in her cage.  Missy has also been learning how to master the tram lately, and now knows how to get on and off safely and to sit down when the tram is moving.  With only a few months to go with her puppy carer, Missy is well on her way to becoming a working Seeing Eye Dog.

Oscar

Oscar is doing very well in SEDA’s Puppy Caring Program and his training is continuing to progress at a great level. Over the past few months Oscar has been on lots of fun adventures, including a visit to the market with his puppy carer and a weekend trip into Melbourne’s CBD where he went to the busy Flinders Street Station and rode the train. This week Oscar will visit SEDA’s Puppy Development Centre to undergo his twelve-month assessment. Whilst there he will have his eyes and ears checked, as well as his muscles and joints to ensure he is as healthy as possible. With only a few months left in the Puppy Caring program, Oscar is showing strong signs that he will in fact go on to be the eyes for somebody who is blind or has low vision.

Toby

Toby is making some major improvements and is progressing well in his training over the past few months. The excitable pup was having some troubles when walking on the lead, but the recent introduction of a head halter has made a world of difference. His puppy carers even joke that he seems like a completely different dog now! This month Toby will visit SEDA’s Puppy Development Centre for his twelve-month assessment where he will have a general health check-up. Now that he is 12 months old Toby only has a few more months left with his Puppy Carers before he goes on to his formal training to become a working Seeing Eye Dog.
