Archy

Archy went on so many adventures this month! His SEDA Puppy Carer took him on numerous outings in order to familiarise the young pup with different feelings underfoot (or under-paw!)

One very important exercise was taking him to a shopping centre, where he was introduced to many different surfaces on his little paws. From slippery supermarket floors, to cool concrete stairs and grated drainpipes, Archy experienced the lot! He also went up and down the concrete stairs and mastered this in no time.

He was very hesitant about the escalators and quite confused by them – especially the strange indents on their surface and how quickly they moved.  After a few turns, Archy became much more comfortable with this.

Archy also demonstrated his incredible restraint and waited patiently at the doorway of a butcher shop – what an impressive young fellow!

His SEDA carer says that taking him out is sometime very time consuming- people on the street are far too taken by his gorgeous little face that they always want to stop and chat! He doesn’t mind however, because he enjoys educating people about Archy and the important work that he will grow up to do as a Seeing Eye Dog.

Bailey

This month, Bailey has had so much fun playing with Norton and running around at home. The brothers play ‘chasey’ with each other- just like many young siblings!

people. Bailey especially loves when his SEDA Puppy Carer’s 4 year old Grandson comes to stay. During his last visit, Bailey enjoyed running alongside him as he rode on his bike.

Bailey has also been making friends with the pigs that live on his Puppy Carer’s property. The young pup is very intrigued by them and will often just sit and observe them through the fence- the pigs are quite indifferent to Bailey’s stares!

Bailey was quite confused recently, when his Puppy Carer was standing on a ladder in the yard, calling his name. Young Bailey just couldn’t quite figure out where the sound of his

name was coming from and was searching all over the garden for the source of the noise. Eventually he looked up and discovered that the noise was none other than his beloved Puppy Carer. He now understands that noises can come from all levels and has it all sussed out.

The little pup is very good with his commands but he is still learning, and does sometimes get distracted. His SEDA Puppy Carer is working with him on this, and Bailey will soon have this skill completely down pat!

Chilli

This month, Chilli has continued her usual school runs with her SEDA Puppy Carer and has also been to the market, restaurants and a cinema. The young girl loves going to watch local sporting matches with her Puppy Carer, where she is the most popular spectator going around! She gets very excited to be a part of all of the action.

Chilli’s Puppy Carer works in an office and she goes with her Carer to work – much to the delight of her SEDA Carer’s colleagues! There is nothing better for breaking up a workday than hearing the faint snores of a Seeing Eye Puppy underneath the desk!

Chilli is developing her skills nicely and went with her Trainer to a busy shopping strip for an assessment- where she passed with flying colours. Her trainer is very impressed with her confident approach to the world because nothing really fazes her.

She is also continuing to work on her behaviour at home, which really isn’t too much of an effort for Chilli as she is a quiet and relaxed girl- good behaviour comes naturally for her!

Chilli has been learning how to walk on her lead and not break the pace. This was an area that she was initially unsure of but now, she is doing very well and keeps her pace moving along nicely. This is a very important aspect of her development and is integral for her future work as a Seeing Eye Dog.
