Hope

Young Hope passed her 6 month assessment and her SEDA Puppy Development Officer says she holds great promise as a future Seeing Eye Dog.

This month, Hope was introduced to pedestrian crossings. SEDA has a special practice button at their facility, which exposes the pups to how the crossings work, before they go next to roads in public.  Hope did very well at this and her Puppy Development Officer was very impressed with her progress.

Hope at her assessmentHope can be a little reluctant to go over the gap between the train and the train platform. Her SEDA Puppy Development Officer uses food rewards to help her get over this little fear. She will need to practice this a little more but is improving with every session.

At the SEDA facility, Hope met another Seeing Eye Dog named Clover. The two pups were raised by the same Puppy Carer, and Clover is about to graduate, which is very exciting!

SEDA held a group socialisation day where the pups had an absolute ball running around the bush.

Hope will soon attend a group training session at Chisholm TAFE, where she will walk through the classrooms and cafeteria. This visit will be great to help her with her socialisation.

Maverick

Maverick continues to do very well as he progresses in his SEDA training. He walks up and down stairs with ease and doesn’t get stressed in new environments or situations. He doesn’t get distracted easily, even when there is a lot happening on the street.

Sometimes Maverick can get a bit too excited when other dogs walk past, Always on his best behaviouralthough it is easy to redirect him- especially when there is food involved as a reward!
This month, Maverick went on a temporary stay away from his Carers. While he enjoyed the temporary stay (and the sleep-ins that came with it) he was very excited to see his Puppy Carers once they were reunited (and his family missed him, a lot!)

Maverick also accompanied his SEDA Puppy Carer to her first class at a TAFE. Needless to say, the young pup was admired by all of the students. They were mindful however, not to distract him while he was concentrating (apparently on the lesson!)

He also went to the Royal Exhibition Building, where he was not very interested in the art but was however, on his best behaviour.

Skyla

Skyla has been on many adventures this month, including visiting the Library, a new café and the park. She has also been to the movies at night, where all of the other people at the cinema were so curious about why she was allowed in the cinema. Skyla’s carer enjoys educating others on the important work that the adorable young pup will grow up to do.

Skyla and Royal CaninSkyla continues to build on her socialisation and had a very fun outing with other SEDA pups recently. She had a great time running around with the other
puppies, while the Puppy Carers enjoyed a delicious barbecue.

The young pup also visited her local Petbarn again, where the staff just love seeing how much she has grown.

Skyla has been going for beach walks with her best friend Alfie and enjoying the sunny winter days. As the weather gets warmer, Skyla’s trips to the beach will become more and more frequent.

Young Skyla is well on her way to becoming a Seeing Eye Dog for someone who is blind.
