At Petbarn, we’re all about safety, and the harsh summer sun can be harmful to your dog. Watch this video or read the tips below to learn how to keep your dog safe in summer.

  • Never allow your dog to go without water for long periods of time especially while outside during the summer
  • Always bring a water bottle and hydration bowl on trips
  • At home, you can use a pet fountain to keep your water fresh and encourage your dog to keep hydrated
  • You can put ice in your dog’s water on hot days
  • Avoid exercising your dog during the hottest part of the day
  • Take care exercising your dog on roadways and paved surfaces on hot summer days as the hot surface can quickly damage paws or cause overheating
  • Consider a clip for long-coated pets at the start of summer
  • Some dogs are prone to sunburn – white-skinned and short coated breeds suffer the most. Be aware of this and use pet specialist sunscreen especially on the unpigmented areas of the nose, ears and belly
