Want an active pet that loves children and is low-maintenance? A Weimaraner will be your best buddy.64-weimaraner

Nicknamed the Silver Ghost, the Weimaraner is a fast, agile and elegant dog. They are great family pets, getting along well with children and making ideal companions. They love family life and enjoy getting involved and playing lots of games with their humans. However, watch your feet as your dog will always be underfoot. Weimaraners are clingy, another nickname for these dogs is ‘Velcro’ as they don’t like leaving their family’s side.

They also make great watchdogs and will alert you of any intruder present. Weimaraners are intelligent, quick-witted and eager to please. When trained young make incredibly well-behaved pets – all your friends will be asking you to train their pets too! Training must be consistent though, as they are dominant in nature and like toddlers, they will test you.

Fun fact: At birth, Weimaraner puppies have dark grey tiger stripes

and bright blue eyes. As they age, they lose the stripes and their eyes

pale to a grey-blue or amber colour.

Weimaraners are full of energy and ready to go. They have high-energy needs and if you’re looking for a pet to help you exercise more, this is the dog for you. They love to go for runs, walks, bike rides and play games in the park. If not exercised enough, they tend to be destructive and unhappy. Your Weimaraner will also love swimming and playing fetch at the beach. They will even get along well with other pets. They are super low-maintenance and easy to take care of. Dirt won’t stick to their coat and a simple brush down weekly will keep them looking lovely. They shed little.

Scheduled six monthly health check visits with your vet are important to ensure that your dog is healthy and happy throughout all life stages. While they are a relatively healthy breed, Weimaraners are prone to bone developmental issues, spinal dysraphism and some ear infections. Together with your vet, you can determine and maintain a preventative health care program based on the individual needs of your canine companion.
