“On the go” is the best way to describe this breed. Always ready for a run or cuddle, this friendly good-natured dog is a great fit for a family.

50-foxhound

Excitable, lively, energetic and loving, your Foxhound will be at your beck and call and always eager to please… except when on the scent. This is when they turn oblivious to the world around them and recalling your dog is next to impossible.

Apart from their incredible sense of smell, Foxhounds love surrounding themselves with their family and often want a scratch or to play a game. They are full of beans and will happily go on daily, vigorous runs. They need lots of physical and mental exertion and best suit active households. Foxhounds make good pets for active families. However they are very energetic and may not suit very young children. Having two Foxhounds is often recommended, as they enjoy the company.

Fun fact: No two Foxhounds have the same nose print,

just like human fingerprints.

While intelligent, they get easily distracted by smells and may not be the most obedient dog. A big dwelling with a yard is ideal, as they are too large and lively to be kept indoors. Luckily they are low-maintenance and a simple rub-down weekly and the occasional bath when required is perfect.

Scheduled six monthly health check visits with your vet are important to ensure that your dog is healthy and happy throughout all life stages. Foxhounds are known for being a healthy and sturdy breed. Together with your vet, you can determine and maintain a preventative health care program based on the individual needs of your canine companion.
