A Field Spaniels love of running, jumping and swimming is so strong, it seems born to exercise. This highly energetic breed likes to spend plenty of time outdoors and can never spend too much time at the park. Early morning runs, an afternoon swim and a game of fetch are all in a day for this dog. If bored, this breed tends to roam, so is ideally suited to large dwellings with a yard.

Devoted and loyal to their family, a Field Spaniel is sweet, sensitive and affectionate but tends to be reserved with strangers. They are ideal family pets and are wonderful with children as well as other cats and dogs. They thrive when involved in all aspects of family life and don’t like being left alone for too long.

Fun fact: This breed was developed during the 19th century

as breeders sought to create a medium-sized, all-purpose hunting dog

that would be a loyal, loving pet as well as a competent hunter on land and in water.

Highly intelligent, a Field Spaniel loves performing new tasks and tricks and will pick them up very quickly. They also have a high tendency to bark and do make great watchdogs, however they can be so friendly that any intruder will be met with nothing more than love and licks. Field Spaniels shed moderately and their coat requires moderate maintenance and needs to be brushed twice a week. Bathe monthly and keep the ears clean to prevent infections.

Scheduled six-monthly health checks and visits to the vet are important to ensure your dog is healthy and happy throughout all life stages. It’s important that together with your vet a preventative healthcare program is determined and maintained based on the individual needs of your canine companion. Field Spaniels are prone to ear problems such as ear mites and eye problems like cataracts.
