This breed is lively, amicable and sociable. In fact, signs of timidity are considered to be a flaw. They are the ultimate family pet, being gentle and loving with all members, including small children and other pets.

They are natural hound dogs and will give chase to any small, moving object so keep your dog leashed when out in public to keep them safe. They are cheerful and sweet-tempered, wanting nothing more than to curl up with their family. Don’t think of them merely as little feet warmers though – they enjoy getting out and about and having a good romp in the park. With energy to burn, a large dwelling with a yard is ideal as they love being able to run around and sniff things out. Grooming your dog isn’t difficult, just comb their coat weekly at home and see a professional groomer every few months. The hair around their ears should be trimmed and kept short and neat, however don’t trim the rest of their coat. They shed little hair.

Scheduled six-monthly health checks and visits to the vet are important to ensure your dog is healthy and happy throughout all life stages. It’s important that together with your vet a preventative health care program is determined and maintained based on the individual needs of your canine companion. They are a strong healthy breed with little hereditary problems.
