The Petbarn Foundation is donating $100k in October to help care for rescues inundated with surrendered pets, encouraging Australian’s to #rethinkrescues.
86% of dogs seen on Petbarn Foundation partner SavourLife, Adopt-A-Dog website, are there due to their owner’s circumstances. Yet dozens of stereotypes exist that surrendered animals are unhealthy, old or have behavioural issues, which are all simply untrue.
“Adoption is something we are very passionate about and as the numbers of animals in shelters continue to boom, we are determined to encourage potential pet parents to consider rescuing a pet through adoption. Through the pandemic we saw a dramatic increase in pet ownership and sadly as COVID restrictions have eased we are seeing a subsequent increase in surrenders and therefore animals available for adoption. Janelle Bloxsom, Petbarn Foundation Manager.
Michael McTeigue, Founder & Managing Director at SavourLife agrees, “All dogs available for adoption from our partner rescue groups will have been temperament tested and given the appropriate training, if required, before being re-homed. A rescue group will strive to match a dog’s personality to match the potential adopter’s family situation and living environment.”
In the lead up to Christmas, SavourLife’s Adopt-A-Dog website has never had a wider variety of dogs available for adoption with almost 1700 dogs (including purebreds) from 175 breeds available nationally, with some of the most popular and available for adoption including:
- Greyhound
- Kelpie
- Jack Russell Terrier
- Staffordshire Bull Terrier
- German Shepherd
- Australian Cattle Dog
- Border Collie
- Boxer
- American Staffordshire Terrier
- Bull Arab
Each dog is evaluated for any existing health conditions and then vaccinated, given flea/worm treatments, de-sexed and microchipped before adoption. This action alone can save thousands of dollars for potential pet parents while also providing reassurance about both their current and future health.
Petbarn has also rehomed over 65,000 cats and kittens through our instore Adoption Centres.
Join us in rescuing thousands of dogs and cats, puppies and kittens from these stereotypes. Help us #rethinkrescue and find your new fur-ever family member here.
