A crate should be big enough for your dog to comfortably stand, turn around, and lay down in.

Measure your dog from the tip of its nose to the base of its tail and also their height to their wither. Compare these dimensions with the size guide on the product page and/or packaging. Always allow enough headroom for your dog to sit and stand without bumping the top.

If you’re buying a crate for a puppy, remember they will grow. Consider getting a crate with a divider so you can make it bigger as they get larger.

Regularly clean up any food or accidents from within the crate. When doing a deeper clean, remove all bedding and toys, then hose or wipe down surfaces with a pet-safe detergent. Rinse thoroughly and air-dry in the sun to prevent mould. For wire crates, check hinge pins and locks for rust and lubricate annually. Adding a washable mat or pad simplifies ongoing upkeep.
