Advantix

Frequently Asked Questions about Advantix for Dogs

Advantix is a spot-on flea and tick treatment for dogs that also repels mosquitoes, sand flies, and stable flies. Applied as a spot-on to your dog's skin, the active ingredients, imidacloprid and permethrin, spread over the coat and form a protective barrier. Fleas and ticks are killed on contact, while mosquitoes and biting flies are repelled.

Always follow the directions on the label unless directed otherwise by your veterinarian. For most parasites, it is recommended to apply Advantix every four weeks to maintain continuous protection. For paralysis tick protection, apply Advantix every two weeks.

Set a reminder on the Petbarn App so you never miss a dose.

No. Advantix is only registered for puppies aged seven weeks and older. Using it on younger pups or those under the minimum weight specified on the pack can cause adverse reactions. Always check your puppy's age and weight before treatment.

It's strongly recommended to wash your dog and let them dry before applying Advantix. Aim to avoid shampooing or swimming for at least two weeks after applying Advantix. If you must wash your dog after application, use a soap-free shampoo.

Advantix repels and kills paralysis ticks on contact, reducing the risk of tick-borne paralysis and diseases. For paralysis tick control, apply Advantix every two weeks.

Indoor dogs should be treated for parasites. Fleas can hitch a ride into your home on clothing or other pets, and indoor dogs can still be exposed to mosquitoes, ticks, and other parasites that enter the house.

Seeing a few fleas shortly after treatment is not unusual. Environmental flea stages (eggs, larvae and pupae) can take several weeks to clear. To tackle them:

  • Vacuum carpets, rugs and upholstery regularly
  • Wash bedding at high temperature weekly
  • Treat all pets in the household with appropriate products

Combining Advantix application with environmental control breaks the flea life cycle more quickly.
