What’s the difference between API Stress Coat+ and API Tap Water Conditioner?

API Stress Coat+ not only neutralises chlorine and chloramine but also replaces natural slime coat with synthetic polymers and aloe vera to help fish recover from stress and minor injuries.
API Tap Water Conditioner removes chlorine, chloramine and heavy metals but does not include slime coat enhancers.

Which API test kit should I use: 5-in-1 Freshwater Master or individual liquid kits?

The API 5-in-1 Freshwater Master Test Kit provides quick, multi-parameter readings for pH (mid and high range pH), ammonia, nitrite and nitrate—ideal for routine checks. For more precise monitoring of ammonia, nitrite or pH, the individual liquid kits (for example, API Freshwater Ammonia Test Kit) offer greater accuracy and sensitivity. Many hobbyists use the 5-in-1 kit weekly and individual kits monthly or when parameters look off.

Are API water treatments safe for shrimp, snails and live plants?

Most API water treatments—including Stress Coat+, Tap Water Conditioner, Prime, Quick Start, Melafix and Algaefix—are safe for freshwater shrimp, snails and live plants at recommended dosages. Always follow label directions, avoid overdosing, and perform regular water tests to keep your aquascape balanced and healthy.
