The British Shorthair is a medium-sized, powerfully built cat with a broad chest and short, strong legs. Its dense, short coat does not lie flat on the body. This breed typically has a rounded head with a small nose and chubby cheeks, which gives these cats their characteristic ‘smiling’ expression.
Temperament
The British Shorthair is a friendly and affectionate breed, enjoying attention in an undemanding manner. These loyal and devoted companions are not ‘lap cats’ but do want to be where you are, snuggling up beside you on the sofa. While not very active cats, they have their energetic moments. British Shorthairs are intelligent cats with a calm demeanour, which makes them quiet and unobtrusive in a household. They are tolerant with children and dogs but do not like to be carried around. Quite content with their own company, British Shorthairs can happily amuse themselves in your absence.
