Petbarn - Where Greyhounds Come First

As a long time supporter of the Greyhound racing industry, Petbarn is committed to giving breeders and trainers the best in fresh meat, dry foods, supplements and equipment to get the most out of their sport.

Petbarn has been involved in supplying the racing industry since the late 1970's when the business first started out, and continued when Petbarn opened its first bulk warehouse in Penrith in 1989.

The Penrith warehouse is still the biggest store in the group, but there are now warehouse stores set up in Northmead, Campbelltown, Moorebank, Chatswood, and new superstores set up in Fyshwick and West Gosford.

Inside each warehouse store there is a massive range of petcare products on display, and a large section for Greyhound specialty products, with brands like Farrell's, Box 1 and Winning Edge kibbles and biscuits.

A large refrigerated section, with meat preparation and freezing facilities sells a range of mince products, with large bulk orders prepared on the spot for breeders needing large quantities of roo, lamb, chicken and beef mixes.

Many regular Greyhound breeders come from the country to buy at Cambelltown and Penrith stores, pre-ordering their supplies to make sure that their orders are processed and ready for them.

The Canberra Warehouse is also attracting a lot of breeders around the ACT and from across the border in NSW, while Central Coast and Hunter Valley breeders are driving to the West Gosford store.

Most of the bigger Petbarn stores sell Greyhound muzzles, leads and collar sets, and a range of supplements, such as Calcium Carbonate, Kelp powder, Dolomite and bone food, that Breeders use. Oxy-shot is also sold, along with a number of Virbac nutritional supplements, such as Feramo, and electrolyte replacement products such as Beta-Cel.

Beta-Cel Electrolyte replacer is recommended to help beat the stress of panting, training, racing and travelling, and is designed specifically for racing greyhounds. It also contains added glucose for energy, and lactose and citrate salts to help buffer muscle acidosis.

Greyhound Coats are in heavy demand through the winter months, while in the Spring and summer months, a lot of trainers and breeders are buying Fibreglass Hydrobaths, with inbuilt heating. These include the Conmurra Standard, dual filter, twin tank deluxe and Autofill.

Petbarn also sell ultrasound gels for use with TGS electronic equipment, which they also sell. The equipment comes with a two year warranty, and includes Pulsed magnetic therapy equipment; Phototherapy (super-luminescent light therapy) equipment; and Faradic Muscle stimulation equipment. Most of this equipment is also available from the Penrith store, and can be purchased by a visit to the store, or by telephone purchase for country trainers and breeders.

Magnetic Phototherapy blankets have also proved very popular.

Magnetic Field therapy has been shown to be very effective in accelerating the healing of wounds in dogs, and reducing swelling or pain in muscles, tendons and ligaments caused by over exertion or other factors.

According to TGS scientific studies "With bone injuries, bleeding occurs to form a haematoma in which capillaries quickly form, transporting enriched blood to the injury site."

"Pulsed magnetic Field therapy of a base frequency of 50Hz, pulsed at above 12Hz, causes vaso and capillary dilation, so helping to speed up the process of callus formation."

The equipment is essentially very easy to operate, and Petbarn is happy to advise breeders on the different types of equipment, and what will best suit their needs.

Pretty much, whatever your need, Petbarn will probably stock it, and if you are searching for a particular product which is not on shelf, Petbarn will try and source it for you.

Petbarn are committed to providing the Greyhound industry with all the products and equipment they need to run a successful breeding and racing needs.
